UKCA certification and production assurance for 800+ nuclear electrical cabinets

Matthew led right-first-time assurance for safety-critical electrical cabinetry for the Nuclear Island, coordinating certification evidence, build documentation, qualification records and production readiness for an 800+ unit run.

Evidence basisCareer record and project delivery evidence

Certification evidence, production control and serial manufacture.

The sections below separate the product and production context from Matthew's personal accountability for assurance, certification evidence and manufacturing readiness.

01

Challenge

Safety-critical electrical cabinetry for the Nuclear Island needed to move from development and qualification into controlled serial production. The production baseline had to bring build definition, product conformity, certification evidence, environmental qualification and lifetime records into one repeatable assurance approach.

02

Matthew's accountability

Matthew led right-first-time assurance for the cabinetry, coordinating certification evidence, manufacturing readiness, build-document control and qualification records. His role connected engineering, manufacturing and assurance evidence before entry into full production.

03

Engineering and certification intervention

Matthew coordinated evidence across IP and IK protection, UKCA requirements, electrical safety and environmental qualification. The evidence set included HVAC failure, EMC and seismic test regimes alongside the product and build records needed for conformity and acceptance.

04

Production assurance

Matthew coordinated certified build documentation, First Article Verification (FAVe) test specifications and reports, Lifetime Quality Records (LTQR), configuration evidence and the records needed to support a controlled manufacturing baseline.

05

Result

The cabinetry entered full production for an 800+ unit production run with a defined assurance and certification evidence set supporting repeatable manufacture.

06

Business impact

The approach established an evidence-controlled production baseline supporting product conformity, certification, acceptance and serial production. It also placed right-first-time assurance within the manufacturing process rather than relying on end-stage inspection alone.

Key actions

  • Coordinated right-first-time assurance for safety-critical electrical cabinetry for the Nuclear Island.
  • Joined IP and IK, UKCA, electrical-safety and environmental-qualification evidence into the production assurance baseline.
  • Coordinated FAVe test specifications and reports with certified build documentation and LTQR requirements.
  • Supported production readiness through HVAC failure, EMC and seismic test evidence.
  • Established the assurance evidence needed for entry into an 800+ unit serial-production run.
